Rev. Raymond W. Schouten, S.J. was born in Buffalo on August 11, 1905 and entered the Society of Jesus at Poughkeepsie September 7, 1925.
He studies philosophy at Weston and spent his Regency at Fordham University. In 1934, he went to Woodstock for his theology degree and was ordained in 1934. A tertianship followed at Saint Andrew and Auriesville. In 1939, he was named Regent of the School of Social Service at Fordham University and held this post until his appointment as Rector of Canisius University, July 11, 1947. In 1952, he was assigned to the retreat house in Syracuse as Assistant Director.
