Dave Robinson the coordinator of Pax Christi USA, a national peace movement, spoke at Canisius University in a lecture entitled "Eyewitness from Iraq: War, Conscience and Faith."

The Peter Canisius Distinguished Teaching Professors Program awarded three-year grants to Dr. Bruce Dierenfield, Dr. Michael Noonan, and Dr. Mick Cochrane to supply them with the resources necessary to enhance undergraduate teaching.

Mary Frances Berry, Chair of the Civil Rights Commission spoke at Canisius University. The event was held in conjunction with the college's annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and co-sponsored by the William H. Fitzpatrick Chair of Political Science Lecture Series.

Local Pulitzer Prize poet, Carl Dennis spoke at Canisius University. His talk was sponsored by the Western New York Writing Project at Canisius University.

Depew native and fiction author, Lucille Clifton, gave a lecture at Canisius University as part of the Canisius University Contemporary Writers Series.

Acclaimed artist and mathematician, Tony Robbin, spoke at Canisius University in a lecture entitled "Four-Dimensional Projections."

Western New York Writing Project held a Young Writers Festival at Canisius University. The workshop, entitled "Become a Better Writer" encouraged children in grades 3 to 12 to use their imagination through creative writing.

Ralph Nader spoke at Canisius University about "World Trade, Globlization and You: Bigger is Not Better." Nader is a consumer advocate and presidential candidate for the Green Party, working to ensure ordinary people have the tools necessary to defend themselves against corporate negligence and government interference.

The Honorable Alex Kozinski of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit spoke at Canisius University in a lecture called "Judicial Independence and the Separation of Powers."
May 14
Canisius University received the "Excellence in Preservation" Award. The college was recognized for preserving, restoring, and revitalizing four historic buildings on campus: Old Main, Lyons Hall, Montante Cultural Center, and the George M. Martin Hall.

The Western New York Writing Project sponsored "Dino Write" for students in grades 2-6 at the Buffalo Museum of Science.
June 19
An international calligraphy exhibit, "Project Hope," pays homage to the victims of September 11. It was on display in Canisius University's Andrew L. Bouwhuis, S.J. Library until July 18.
July 18
Canisius University appointed Dr. Margaret C. McCarthy as new dean for the School of Education and Human Services.
August 15
Canisius University opens the Intercultural Living Center at Campion Hall which will house nearly 50 international and American students attending the college.

Canisius University Psychology professors, Dr. Judith E. Larkin and Dr. Harvey A. Pines released the findings of a recent study they conducted entitled "When Teachers Call on Students: Avoidance Behavior in the Classroom."

Canisius University welcomed the widely-established poet, Thom Ward, for a poetry reading.

Dr. Richard Wall, professor of economics and finance at Canisius University, received the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation by the Association for Investment Management and Research. The CFA is the only globally recognized credential for investment analysis and management.

The Canisius University Program in the African American Experience sponsored a lecture by Dr. Lawrence Levine entitled "African American Culture and Consciousness in Slavery."

Celebrated local author, Michael Joyce, read from his works in a talk sponsored by the Canisius University Contemporary Writers Series.

Wolfgang Ischingerm, ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United States spoke under the Canisius University Ambassadorial Series, in a lecture entitled "The Future of Transatlantic Relations."

Canisius University received a $2,000 grant from Target Corporation to promote literacy efforts through the college's Graduate Reading Program for children in grades 1-12.
December 1
Canisius University's Frank G. Raichle Lecture Series sponsored a talk by New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. His lecture was entitled "Protecting Investors: The Law and Financial Markets."

Canisius University President Rev.Vincent M. Cooke, S.J. announced the establishment of the Canisius University Women's Business Center housed in Demerly Hall.
