Rev. Aloysius J. Pfeil, S.J. was born April 18, 1862 and entered the Society of Jesus at Exaten, Holland, September 22, 1878.
He taught at Canisius University in 1886 and also served as librarian. His theology degree was granted at Ditton Hall, England, where he was ordained in 1892. Tertianship was made as Socius to the Master of Novices at Prairie du Chien in 1894.
His priesthood began in Cleveland in 1895 where he remained for four years. In 1899, he came to Canisius as Prefect of Studies. On August 15, 1901, he was appointed Rector of Canisius University and held this office until 1905 when he was transferred to Cleveland. During his time as President of Canisius, he had the first electric lights installed at "the villa."
In 1908, he was assigned to Saint Francis Hospital, New York City as chaplain and in 1914, commenced his long tenure as Chaplain of Saint Anthony's Hospital, Woodhaven, Long Island,NY.
Father Pfeil died in Brooklyn April 4, 1937.
