The Canisius University Web site admissions pages were ranked first in the Red Dot Group's Enrollment Power Index (EPI) of top colleges and universities admissions pages in the United States. The Canisius University web site was created in association with LiquidMatrix Corporation of Orchard Park, NY, using their ActiveCampus product.

Saludos Hispanos, a leading career and education magazine for bilingual Hispanics, presented Canisius University with its "2001 Educators of Distinction" award. The award is given to institutions that have demonstrated a commitment to higher education for Hispanics.

Morris Dees, civil rights attorney and chief counsel for The Southern Poverty Law Center, spoke at Canisius University. The event was held in conjunction with the college's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration and was co-sponsored by the William H. Fitzpatrick Chair of Political Science.

Chester Stranczek '01 HON, entrepreneur, businessman and mayor of Crestwood, Illinois, and his wife, Diane, have presented Canisius University with a $1 million gift in support of the renovation project currently underway at the college's Koessler Athletic Center.

Mary Lu Littlefield, director of design and publication services at Canisius University was named the 2002 David I. Levy Communicator of the Year by Brainstorm, the Communicators Club of Buffalo Inc. The award recognizes outstanding achievement and service of a professional in the communication industry.

The offices of International Student Programs and Academic Affairs at Canisius University hosted the Hungarian traveling exhibit, "Realization of a Dream." The exhibit commemorated the 19th century nationalist Lajos Kossuth and his visit to the United States in 1952.

Stanton H. Hudson, director of the Organizational Communication and Development Graduate Program at Canisius University, has been elected to The College of Fellows of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Hudson is the first person from Western New York to receive this prestigious honor.

Twenty minority students from the city of Buffalo began their studies at Canisius University on full-tuition, four-year scholarships, awarded through the college's McGowan Learning Community Scholarship Program.

"With the Same Rhythm (Con el Mismo Ritmo)", a commissioned artwork funded by an anonymous donor which reflects elements of Latino/a culture, was unveiled in the Grupp Fireside Lounge. It will be permanently housed in the Andrew L. Bouwhuis, S.J. Library.

The Canisius University Student Constitutional Reform Commission has completed a three-year research project on the New York State Constitution. More than 75 political science majors participated in the project.

Dr. Paula McNutt, professor of religious studies at Canisius University, attended the Defense Department's Educators and Defense Conference.

David Kaczynski, brother of convicted "Unabomber" Ted Kaczyski, shared his personal story and offered an analysis of the current death penalty system in the Montante Cultural Center.

It was announced that the college will purchase the BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York complex at Main Street and Jefferson Street form The Uniland Partnership of Delaware, L.P. for $18.45 million.

Dr. Elenora Bergman, deputy director of the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw, Poland, and a leading expert on Jewish historical sites in Poland spoke at Canisius University. Her lecture was entitled, "The Present and Future of Jewish Historical Sites in Poland."

Dr. Wayne Gall from the New York State Department of Health gave a lecture on Lyme disease at Canisius University.
November 14
The Canisius University Raichle Pre-Law Center commemorated the 25th anniversary of the New York State Constitution with a panel discussion entitled, "The New York Constitution: Past-Present-Future." The panel discussion was held in conjunction with the Buffalo/Erie County Historical Society and The League of Women Voters of Buffalo/Niagara.

A traditional Lakota "Iowanpi" or healing ceremony was conducted by Roy Stone, a medicine man from the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota.

A Mass celebrated completely in French was held at the Canisius University Christ the King Chapel. The principal celebrant was Rev. Daniel P. Jamros, S.J.

Dr. Wayne Gall from the New York State Department of Health gave a lecture at Canisius University on West Nile Virus. The lecture and the one held on November 7 were made possible by a grant from the John R. Oishei Distinguished Teaching Professorship Program.

The Canisius University Little Theatre presented "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" at the Marie Maday Theatre on campus.
