Kojm, deputy executive director of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the U.S. gave a lecture at Canisius entitled, "The Findings and Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission." This lecture was presented under the auspices of a lecture series created by the Hon. John LaFalce, Peter Canisius Distinguished University professor.

Eduardo Aguirre, Jr., director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services gave a lecture at the Montante Cultural Center entitled,"The Governmental Role in Welcoming the Stranger." The talk was part of the the Canisius Lecture Series on the Governmental Role in Effectuating The Corporal Works of Mercy.

Best-selling novelist Susan Power spoke at the Grupp Fireside Lounge. Power is a past recipient of the PEN/Hemingway prize for fiction as well as the Milkweed National Fiction Prize.

Canisius University Office of Campus Ministry together with JUSTICE and Amnesty International sponsored a panel discussion, "Here I Stand, I Can Do No Other: A panel Discussion on Human Rights and Social Justice" featuring four prisoners of conscience who spent time in prison for protesting the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Canisius University hosted the joint meeting of the Mathematicians Association of America (MAA) Seaway Section and Region I of the New York State Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges (NYSMATYC).
November 8
Canisius University announced it will offer a minor in Catholic Studies beginning Fall 2005. The minor is offered through the Religious Studies Department and is designed to prepare students for leadership positions within the Catholic Church and church-affiliated organizations.

Dr. Shawn Lay, leading authority on the Ku Klux Klan, spoke at the Richard E. Winter student center. He spoke on the subject of his book, "Hooded Knights on the Niagara: The Ku Klux Klan in Buffalo, New York."

The chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, Dana Gioia, gave a lecture in the Montante Cultural Center entitled, "American Arts and Public Policy." The lecture was co-sponsored by the college's Departments of Fine Arts and English, and the lecture series created by the Hon. John J. LaFalce, Peter Canisius Distinguished University Professor.
November 19-22
A delegation of 15 students and staff from the Canisius Office of Campus Ministry traveled to Fort Benning, GA to participate in the annual Ignatian family teach-in and protest at the School of the Americas. The delegation traveled with students from Niagara University, John Carroll University, Buffalo State College and volunteers from the Buffalo Diocesan Service Corps.

Canisius hosted its annual German Christmas Mass at the college's Christ the King Chapel. Rev. Daniel P. Jamros, S.J., associate professor of Religious Studies was the principal celebrant and the German American Musicians provided all of the music, as well as performing a concert of Christmas music prior to the mass.
