Canisius University received the largest gift in the college's 136 year history from the Carl J. and Carol Ann Montante family. The family donated $5.1 million for the creation of an interdisciplinary science center.

The Series was developed by Mick Cochrane, PhD, professor of English and the college's Writer-in-Residence, through his Peter Canisius Distinguished Teaching Professorship, which is funded by the college and the John R. Oishei Foundation. additional funding comes from the Hassett and Scoma Endowments. Lectures are also made possible through the cooperation of the Just Literary Center of Buffalo.

April 1, 2006, Sharp conducted a workshop entitled “Reclaiming Your Ancestral Power.” Sharp's work focuses on cultural arts, health and Black History. The 2 day event was sponsored by Canisius University, the Afro-American Historical Association of the Niagara Frontier, Buffalo's Elegant Urban Essentials, Buffalo Public Schools/Department of Social Studies Education, Erie Community College City campus, The Buffalo Chapter of the NAACP and Tradition Keepers: Black Storytellers of Western N.Y.
