Instruction Policy

The Canisius College Library instruction program is based on the Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL) Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. We adhere to the following guidelines in order to ensure effective library instruction for your classes.

Room Reservation/Group Study Room Policy

The library offers twelve group study rooms that can be reserved. These rooms are intended for student use. Several rooms have technology installed. Reserve rooms here: library.canisius.edu/or.

The Rosetta Stone room can be reserved for one person use and persons using the language software have priority.

Circulation Policy

To Borrow Library Materials

  • A borrower must have a valid Canisius College ID card and be a registered student, staff, faculty member or Alumni with a photo ID to charge out library materials. ID cards are non-transferable. If your ID card is lost or stolen, immediately report the loss to Public Safety at 716-888-2330.
  • I.D. cards are available at the Office of Public Safety in the lower level of Bosch Hall.

Visitor Services

All visitors must present ID and complete the sign-in visitor form at the service desk every time they enter the ALB Library. Visitors may be asked to show a photo ID.

Visitors may not borrow books, materials or laptops.

All public computers in the library require a Canisius College account for access to the Internet. Current Canisius students have priority for computers, space and resources.

Alumni Services

Graduates of Canisius College may borrow up to 5 books at one time for a four (4) week period. A University ID number is required.

Computers and online databases can be accessed on campus when available.

Access to online databases from off campus is not allowed due to license contracts restrictions.
